A Simple Analytics alternative at half the price

Simple Analytics is the closest thing to Kipstats on principle: no cookies, no IP stored, hosted in the Netherlands, one clean dashboard. The differences are concrete — 20 € a month against 9 € at 100,000 pageviews, a free plan that demands a badge and keeps 30 days, and nothing that tells you where a visitor got stuck.

Simple Analytics figures read on its pricing and docs, September 2026.

In short: same privacy stance, same kind of dashboard, different priorities. Simple Analytics is lighter on the wire and offers three years of retention, Looker Studio and enterprise SSO. Kipstats costs less at the same volume, puts every feature in the free plan without a badge, and adds the layer neither of the two used to have: friction, revenue and bot separation.

Kipstats vs Simple Analytics, line by line

Simple Analytics' lighter script and longer retention are in the table too.

Three honest differences

1. The free plan asks for something back

Simple Analytics' free tier is for hobby sites: a badge on your pages is required, history stops at 30 days, and goals, events, metadata and both APIs are switched off. Kipstats' free plan is one site and 10,000 pageviews a month with everything on — events, revenue, friction, API — and no badge.

2. How a returning visitor is recognised

Simple Analytics deduplicates visits using the referrer — if the previous page was on your own domain, it is not a new visit. It is the most privacy-preserving method there is, and they are open about its limit: no cross-session recognition. Kipstats uses a daily anonymous fingerprint, which recognises a visitor across pages and tabs within a day, and deliberately forgets them at midnight. Neither can follow anyone across days.

3. What happens after the count

Both count pages and events. Only Kipstats records the rage click on your "Pay" button, the field everyone abandons in your signup form, the JavaScript error on the checkout page, and a purchase pushed from your payment webhook with its amount and currency. How revenue tracking works.

Where Simple Analytics wins

Its light script is 1.9 KB gzipped against our 4.2 KB, and even its full script is slightly lighter. It documents three years of retention, ships a Looker Studio connector, and offers SSO, SOC 2 and a data proxy on its enterprise tier. It also has ten sites on a single paid plan, where our 9 € plan stops at ten too — but theirs charges 20 € per extra user, and we have no team accounts at all yet.

Which one is for you

Pick Kipstats if…

  • You want the same privacy stance for half the price at the same volume.
  • You need events and the API on a free plan, without a badge on your site.
  • Your pages have a job — a signup, a checkout — and you need to see where it fails.
  • You want purchases recorded from your server, with amounts and currencies.

Stay on Simple Analytics if…

  • Every kilobyte counts and their 1.9 KB light script is the deciding factor.
  • You need three years of retention documented, or a Looker Studio connector.
  • You need SSO, SOC 2 or a data proxy under your own domain.
  • Several people need their own login today — we have no team accounts yet.

Questions

Is the Simple Analytics free plan usable?

For a hobby site, yes: five sites, unlimited pageviews under fair use. But it requires their badge on your pages, keeps only 30 days of history, and disables goals, events, metadata and the APIs.

Which one is lighter?

Simple Analytics. Their full script is about 3.7 KB gzipped and their light build 1.9 KB, against 4.2 KB for ours. Ours carries the friction capture — rage clicks, dead clicks, abandoned fields — which is where the extra kilobyte goes.

Do both work without a cookie banner?

Yes. Neither sets cookies, neither stores IP addresses. Your other scripts may still require one.

Can Kipstats import my Simple Analytics history?

No, there is no import today. Run both in parallel for a couple of weeks and keep your export — Kipstats history starts the day you add the script.
